Bolton have completed the signing of striker Marvin Sordell from Watford for an undisclosed fee subject to confirmation from the Football Association and Premier League.

The 20-year-old has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Reebok Stadium to become the Trotters' third and final signing of the transfer window.

England Under-21 international Sordell has scored 10 goals for Watford this season and Bolton boss Owen Coyle was pleased to acquire the forward, telling: bwfc.co.uk: "I am delighted to have brought Marvin to our club, as there were a number of other Premier League clubs tracking him."

He added: "We know that he has great potential and I am really looking forward to working with him.

"Overall, we're very pleased with all the players we have been able to bring in, as we have strengthened and added real quality signings to our squad."

Bolton earlier signed Ryo Miyaichi having already brought in Tim Ream.

Coyle keen to keep Kevin

Coyle keen to keep Kevin

Bolton boss Owen Coyle has reiterated his desire to keep hold of Kevin Davies - but admits the situation ultimately depends on the Wanderers striker himself.

After it emerged at the weekend that Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill had made an enquiry about Davies, the Northern Irishman on Monday revealed that he has followed it up with a bid which has been rejected.

Coyle conceded the 34-year-old - who is out of contract in the summer and has lost his place in the Wanderers first XI this season - could go if he indicates that he wants to leave, but said: "It (a bid) won't change my outlook."

Coyle, talking at a press conference on Monday ahead of Wednesday's Barclays Premier League home clash with Arsenal, added: "I want Kevin Davies here, regardless of what offer is made.

"The only thing that would change that circumstance is if Kevin Davies said to me: "Gaffer, I think I want to look at that' - then that is different, because I have to understand Kevin's feelings on that.

"But he is our captain, he has been a huge part of Bolton Wanderers and he will continue to be.

"Of course, he is frustrated at not being in the starting line-up, because he has always been used to playing.

"He will be the first to tell you that, along with the rest of the group, his form has slightly dipped.

"But I saw enough on Saturday (when Davies came on as a substitute in the 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round win over Swansea) to see that he is up for the fight.

"He was terrific when he came on and showed how much the club means to him. I don't want him going anywhere and he knows that - I told him day after day last week, so he knows my feelings on it."

Bolton V Swansea at Reebok Stadium : Match Preview

Bolton V Swansea at Reebok Stadium : Match Preview

Bolton revival facing cup test Bolton will be spurred on by a feeling of injustice when they take to the field against Swansea in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Trotters put in their best performance of the season to beat Liverpool 3-1 in the Barclays Premier League last weekend but boss Owen Coyle was disappointed all the attention afterwards was on the struggles of their opponents. Now the Scot is hoping they can carry that form into Saturday's clash against Brendan Rodgers' team, who came out on top when the sides met in the league in October. Coyle said: "We didn't get the credit we were due for our performance because everyone seemed to be saying Liverpool didn't do well; well sometimes you're not allowed to do well because of the pressure the opposition puts on you and we showed great quality. "Sometimes when you play the elite clubs you have to ride your luck but nothing could be further from the truth, from start to finish we dominated that game. "We've got a big game on Saturday and if we win that then that would cap off a very good week. We've got a tough cup tie against a very good Swansea side but one we're looking forward. "They're a team that can pass and move the ball with the very best. They've got some terrific players, Brendan is a terrific man and someone I've got a lot of time for but we'll be going all out to try to progress to the last 16."

Bolton have had a torrid time since losing 5-0 to Stoke in the semi-finals of the FA Cup last season but there have been a few positive signs recently, not least an easing of their injury crisis, and the Liverpool win took them out of the bottom three. Coyle played down the significance, saying: "We all realise there's a stigma involved in being in the bottom three but the important time to be out of the bottom three is after the last game of the season. "We've won a game last week and it was a valuable three points but equally what we've got to do is make sure when we go back to the league that we continue to pick up points. "Everybody looked at our fixtures going into the new year: Everton away, Manchester United away, Liverpool at home, and I've got no doubt, outside our football club, everybody thought Bolton Wanderers wouldn't take a point, but we've totally disproved that and taken six, and what we must do is kick on now."

New signing Tim Ream has headed back to the States to sort out the last of his paperwork and is unlikely to be unavailable until next weekend but Jussi Jaaskelainen (thigh) and Tyrone Mears (broken leg) could be involved. Premier League survival may be Swansea's priority this season but left-back Neil Taylor hopes they can complete a Welsh cup double and match Cardiff's feat by getting to Wembley. Swansea's near-neighbours secured their place in the Carling Cup final with a dramatic 3-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Crystal Palace on Tuesday night and face a Wembley appointment with Liverpool next month. Swansea, of course, tasted Wembley glory in May of last year as their play-off success over Reading, which Taylor missed through suspension, gained them promotion to the top flight, where they currently lie 13th after an impressive start. The latest step on a potential route back to the famous stadium sees Rodgers' side travel to Bolton.

Taylor insists it is a competition Swansea are desperate to do well in, even if the league has to come first with Tuesday's meeting against Chelsea looming on the horizon. "I want to play, to be part of the FA Cup run - all the boys want to be involved," he said. "Although we understand that changes may have to be made. "We want to do really well, I think we showed that at Barnsley in the last round. "It helps the confidence, it was another away win. It will certainly help going into Chelsea if we can get a positive result. "We still love the FA Cup, the magic's still there. "It would be great for us to get to Wembley again after Cardiff did it the other night. "They have a tough game against Liverpool in the final but it's great for them, and great for Welsh football." Defender Alan Tate is included in the squad for the first time since breaking his leg in a golf buggy accident in August but Tottenham have asked for on-loan defender Steven Caulker to be left out to avoid the centre-half being cup-tied. Josh McEachran, another on-loan player, is set to start as he will not be available for Tuesday's meeting with parent club Chelsea.

Ream unfazed by Cahill comparisons

Ream unfazed by Cahill comparisons

Tim Ream knows comparisons with Gary Cahill are inevitable but he is determined to prove a success in his own right after moving from New York Red Bulls to Bolton.

The deal was wrapped up on Thursday after the United States international defender was granted a work permit, with Ream signing for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Cahill's switch to Chelsea has left big boots to fill, but Ream said: "Whenever you sell a player and bring another player in of the same position, you're going to have that comparison. People are going to say, 'he's not this, he doesn't do this as well as Gary', but you've just got to take it and roll with it."

He added: "Everybody's their own player so I just have to do what I'm good at and hopefully everybody will like me."

The 24-year-old will have to wait for his debut as he must return to the States to tie up the last of the paperwork.

That is almost certain to mean Ream will be unavailable not just for Saturday's FA Cup clash with Swansea but also Wednesday's Barclays Premier League meeting with Arsenal and his former Red Bulls team-mate Thierry Henry.

"I'm hoping to be back either late Wednesday night or early Thursday and hopefully be available for the following weekend (against Norwich)," said Ream.

"When all this started really getting serious and we were looking at time-frames I was looking at the Arsenal game and thinking how incredible it would be to go up against Thierry."

Ream has been hugely impressed by the Frenchman's talents, and he added: "I don't think his qualities will ever diminish no matter how old he is, which is scary to say. He is unbelievable."

The 24-year-old, who has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal, has long been linked with a move to the Trotters and spent a week training with the club last year.

Ream's arrival, which is subject to international clearance and immigration formalities, comes just over a week after England international Gary Cahill sealed his move to Chelsea.

Bolton boss Owen Coyle said: "First and foremost we are absolutely delighted to secure Tim's services. He is a US international, a player that year on year has progressed and got better, and he will continue to do that.

"He was trailed by a number of clubs, including West Brom and also Arsenal, who tried to sign him in the summer, so it is great that he sees his future here.

"Tim is everything that we want in the players we are bringing to the club when we spend in the transfer market.

"He is young, has a tremendous attitude and a winning mentality. I know he will fit in well with the rest of the squad here at Bolton."

Ream has been a virtual ever-present for the Red Bulls over the last two Major League Soccer seasons and has played seven times for the USA team, making his full debut against South Africa in November 2010.

Reo-Coker not dwelling on Bellamy

Reo-Coker not dwelling on Bellamy

Bolton captain Nigel Reo-Coker brushed aside his spat with Craig Bellamy to hail the importance of his side's victory over Liverpool.

A feud dating back to 2007 when both were at West Ham was re-opened early in the first half of Wanderers' 3-1 victory and continued as they walked off for half-time, with Zat Knight having to pull his team-mate away. Reo-Coker, who scored his side's second, had the last laugh with the win which lifted Bolton out of the bottom three.

"Craig Bellamy is going to be Craig Bellamy and I've got no respect for him," Reo-Coker said.

"He can do whatever he wants to do but I don't give a damn about him. It is football. I'm from the old school; I'm not a bully or someone who runs my mouth so to speak. I get on with football but if someone brings it to me I'll handle it.

"But I'm not concentrating on him, he is not a big factor in this. It is all about the team and the team performance and I thought we were fantastic. There was no neutral who watched the game who could say we didn't deserve that win."

Having struggled in the relegation zone for most of the season. a second home win of the campaign came as an unexpected but welcome boost for Bolton.

"It is very important (to be out the bottom three), but more than anything it was the win that was important," added Reo-Coker, 27, a free transfer from Aston Villa.

Reo-Coker has been given a deeper role in midfield in recent weeks and, with Kevin Davies relegated to the bench, has been standing in as captain. The midfielder is more than happy to lead the side on the field and feels he has plenty more to offer as well.

"I would say to the manager there is a lot more I can do," he added. "At the moment I have been asked to do a specific role for the team and that is what I am doing.

"It is always an honour to captain a Premier League side and for someone with this 'bad boy' reputation I've managed to captain every club I've been at, so that says a lot."

Bolton 3-1 Liverpool: Match Report

Big win for Bolton as Reds slump.

Bolton's battle to avoid relegation received an unexpected boost with a 3-1 victory over a Liverpool side who need to improve quickly if their season is not to unravel around them.

Midfielders Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker gave the home side a deserved 2-0 lead inside half-an-hour and although Craig Bellamy's seventh of the season reduced the deficit Gretar Steinsson restored the two-goal cushion just five minutes into the second half.

The victory saw Wanderers move out of the bottom three with a performance full of desire and tenacity which, especially in the first half, had the visitors' looking at each other quizzically.

Manager Kenny Dalglish will also no doubt want answers to how a side with only one home win all season - and who have lost their last 10 against the Reds - could open up a usually reliable defence so easily.

Prior to this match only Barclays Premier League title-chasers Manchester City and Tottenham had scored three or more against Liverpool this season.

Worryingly for Dalglish, they have to face City at home on Wednesday in the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final holding just a slender 1-0 lead.

If they defend as poorly as this the 16-year wait for a Wembley appearance may go on even longer.

Wanderers made it 10 points from their last six matches and manager Owen Coyle will hope this result will prove to be a turning point for his beleaguered side.

But after watching his players fail to break down Stoke last week - one of many struggles at Anfield - Dalglish has to find a way of lifting a team which has won just once in six league matches, collecting just six points.

Liverpool
's excellent record against Bolton counted for little as early as the fourth minute when the home side took the lead.

Martin Skrtel stepped out to meet Chris Eagles' pass into David Ngog but the slightest of touches from the former Reds striker moved it on to Davies who charged into the penalty area to shoot low just inside Jose Reina's left-hand post.

Eagles should have made it 2-0 when he held off the challenge of Jose Enrique as he ran in from the touchline only to fire a cross-shot past the far post from a narrow angle.

Bellamy, playing up front alongside Andy Carroll, was by far Liverpool's biggest threat with his pace getting him behind the Wanderers defence on a number of occasions.

The Wales international had one shot blocked by David Wheater while Carroll, who began to link better with his partner as the match wore on, headed straight at Adam Bogdan from Steven Gerrard's crossfield pass.

After Maxi Rodriguez's penalty appeal for the ball hitting Zat Knight's arm was rejected Bolton all too easily carved open Liverpool's defence for a second time.

Eagles was again the instigator, coming off the right touchline to chip the ball over the centre-backs for Reo-Coker to stab home.

Carroll was coming into the game more and after one first-time pass sent Bellamy racing through to shoot at Bogdan his flick-on led to a goal.

His header from Reina's clearance sent the Welshman racing through and this time he cleverly clipped the ball past the Bolton goalkeeper.

Bogdan then saved well from Gerrard's shot before Reina batted away Martin Petrov's free-kick in first-half added time.

Liverpool's hopes of redressing the balance early in the second half were snuffed out after just five minutes when Wheater headed Petrov's corner back across goal and Steinsson slid a shot inside the post.

With 25 minutes to go Stewart Downing and Dirk Kuyt were sent on for Rodriguez and Charlie Adam in an attempt to rescue the situation.

The chances were still falling to Carroll though but his luck did not improve as he blazed over from Davies' mis-control in the penalty area before completely missing Downing's cut-back.

Defender Daniel Agger had come closer moments earlier when his long-range drive clipped the top of the crossbar.

Carroll, without a league goal since October 29, continued to labour in front of net, typified by his complete miskick from Downing's cut-back.

Liverpool's attacking in the closing stages became even more desperate but they rarely looked like threatening Bogdan.

A first win over the Reds since September 10 did wonders for Bolton's confidence, less so for Liverpool who are looking increasingly ragged by the week.

Bolton take MLS striker on trial

Bolton take MLS striker on trial

Bolton manager Owen Coyle has confirmed striker Sebastian Le Toux has joined the club for a week's training.

Le Toux has made a big impact in Major League Soccer with the Philadelphia Union and, following the success of Stuart Holden and the impending arrival of United States defender Tim Ream, Coyle wants to have a look at the 28-year-old before deciding whether to make a move.

"We have received good reports about Sebastian, so we thought we would give him an opportunity to come into the group," confirmed Coyle. "He will train with us for a week and we will see where we are after that."

Coyle confirmed he was edging closer to signing Ream, who would be a direct replacement for Gary Cahill, although the transfer from the New York Red Bulls is not concluded just yet.

"It is close but we need everything in place before we can announce it," said the Scot.

Coyle admitted he would prefer to sign English players but claimed he had to go for value as he tries to steer Bolton clear of relegation trouble.

"Ideally, you would love to have English players but you have to look to the market place to get the best you can," he said. "If that means going to the United States, that is what we will do."

Coyle confirmed veteran keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen had returned to training but after missing four weeks with a thigh injury, youngster Adam Bogdan is likely to retain his place for Saturday evening's clash with Liverpool at the Reebok Stadium.

That will see young forward David Ngog face his old club for the first time since his £4million move from the Merseyside giants in August.

"David is getting stronger," said Coyle, of the 22-year-old, who has scored only twice in 20 appearances for the Trotters so far. "That is a positive sign for us as we head into the second half of the season."

Coyle not satisfied despite Cup win

Bolton boss Owen Coyle admitted he was disappointed with his side's second-half performance after they beat npower League Two outfit Macclesfield 2-0 in Tuesday night's FA Cup third-round replay.

Wanderers took the lead inside the first minute at the Reebok Stadium through Kevin Davies, while Martin Petrov doubled their advantage in the 26th, firing in from just outside the area.

Bolton held out to set up a fourth-round home clash with Swansea a week on Saturday, and Coyle said: " We scored two good goals and created numerous chances to get other goals. But I think in the second half, if the truth be told - and I stressed this to the players - they probably felt it had gotten a bit too easy for them and that they knew they had won the game."

He added: "For me, you have to keep your foot down on the pedal, keep going and get those further goals. There were probably one or two thinking 'We have the game won, we have got Liverpool on Saturday and I'll try to keep a wee bit in the legs.'

"On balance, the most important thing is that we are through to the next round, but if you look at the game there is no doubt that we could have carried on in the vein from the first half and added further goals."

Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson was proud of his players' exploits, particularly after conceding the opener after just 34 seconds when Jonathan Bateson slipped when attempting a clearance to allow Ivan Klasnic to cross for Davies to score.

"It wasn't the greatest start in the world," Simpson said. "The kid has slipped and they punish you at this level when they get a chance.

"Going 1-0 down then we could have caved in, but we recouped a bit.

"We came in 2-0 down at half-time but we said if we could keep a clean sheet in the second half and put them under pressure at times, we might just nick one, and then we could take it from there.

"Credit to the lads, we have played Bolton three times now and usually if it is a League Two club against a Premier League club, 19 times out of 20 they will wipe the floor with you."

Bolton manager Owen Coyle has confirmed Gary Cahill will be in contention to face Manchester United if the defender's move to Chelsea has not been completed by the weekend.

The Trotters have agreed a fee with Chelsea for their England defender and it was anticipated the transfer would have gone through early this week.

Cahill remains a Bolton player amid rumours Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is getting increasingly frustrated. Coyle said: "Gary is a Bolton player and until I hear something different in terms of negotiations being concluded between both parties, he will be in line to play against Manchester United."

He added: "Dialogue continues between Gary's agent and Chelsea."

"We accept it has probably been long-drawn. It is over two weeks ago that we agreed a fee.

"But sometimes that is the nature of football business. It can take that period of time."

It has been suggested rival suitors have made their interest in Cahill known. However, this is news to Coyle, who insisted Chelsea remain the only current option for Cahill.

"If other clubs are linked with him it is just speculation," he said. "We have agreed a fee with Chelsea. I have had no dialogue with any other club.

"We recognise it is the silly season but I don't deal in rumour. I only deal in fact.

"The fact is we have agreed a fee with Chelsea. We have not spoken to anyone else. That is where we are."

Macclesfield earned an FA Cup replay after a battling 2-2 draw against Barclays Premier League side Bolton.

The Silkmen came from a goal down to lead 2-1 before David Wheater's header made it 2-2.

Macclesfield had trailed to Ivan Klasnic's close-range finish before Colin Daniel equalised, then Arnaud Mendy's stunning volley gave the home side the lead.

The tie was played against the background of the first anniversary of the death of Macclesfield's popular midfielder Richard Butcher, who died at the age of 29 from a rare heart condition.

Silkmen manager Gary Simpson, as he does for every match, wore the number 21 in memory of Butcher, as well as yellow socks in honour of Keith Alexander, who died in 2010 aged 53 when Simpson was his assistant at the Moss Rose stadium.

Macclesfield started brightly but the Premier League side took the lead in the seventh minute. The Silkmen's keeper Jose Veiga had done well to turn aside Chris Eagles' strike but from the following corner Klasnic pounced from close range after the home side failed to clear.

Macclesfield took the game to the visitors. And the pressure finally told in the 15th minute when George Donnelly burst down the left, found Daniel unmarked at the far side of the area and he kept his cool before burying a fierce low shot past Adam Bogdan.

In the 68th minute the game swung towards Macclesfield, and in stunning style. Wheater's attempted headed clearance failed to make any distance and, from 25 yards out Mendy flicked the ball up before producing a beautiful volley into the top corner.

The 21-year-old French-born Guinea-Bissau midfielder turned away in restrained celebration while his team-mates and most of the 5,757 inside the stadium went crazy.

Dreams of a famous victory proved short-lived however as Wheater headed Bolton back level 13 minutes from time. Martin Petrov's free-kick from the left was expertly delivered and Wheater held off his marker to head down and past a flat-footed Veiga.

Bolton's Cahill poised to complete Chelsea move

Bolton's Cahill poised to complete Chelsea move

Bolton manager Owen Coyle said Friday that Gary Cahill is likely to have played his last game for the club and that the defender's move to Chelsea should be complete by the end of the weekend.

Coyle confirmed that Cahill would miss Saturday's third round trip to Macclesfield, meaning the England international had probably worn a Wanderers shirt for the last time.

Bolton and Chelsea agreed a fee for Cahill last week, leaving the player's representatives to negotiate personal terms with the Londoners.

Coyle denied suggestions that Cahill's absence against Macclesfield was linked to his looming transfer, stating only that the defender needed a rest after testing matches against Wolves and Everton.

"Gary Cahill will be one of those to miss out on the game, and it's nothing to do with the continuing speculation regarding Chelsea," Coyle said.

"He's one of a number of players that probably needs to rest given the amount of games they've played.

"And moving on to that, my own opinion is I think there's a chance the deal can be concluded by the end of the week. That's where we're at but I'm not a party to any continued dialogue between Chelsea and Gary's representative.

"They were respectful of the other night, the fact we had a big game against Everton and that kept Gary focused and he showed his quality by doing that in the game."

Coyle also dismissed suggestions that other clubs including Manchester United could make a late bid to sign the player.

"There hasn't been any dialogue between ourselves and Manchester United or anything like that," he said.

"We as a football club agreed a deal with Chelsea Football Club and for me that's binding. The only way that will fall down is if the relevant parties don't agree. But my own feeling is I'm pretty sure they can get to a place that they're all happy."

Howard scores in losing effort

Goalkeeper Tim Howard scored for Everton but Bolton came from behind to claim the points in a 2-1 victory and haul themselves off the foot of the Barclays Premier League thanks to a winning goal from Chelsea target Gary Cahill at Goodison Park.

The Toffees took the lead in freak circumstances in the 63rd minute when Howard beat opposite number Adam Bogdan with a clearance from his own box.

However, David Ngog made it 1-1 four minutes later with a smart finish, before Cahill - once again named as Trotters captain despite a fee for him being agreed with Chelsea - smashed in the winner with 12 minutes remaining.

The result takes Bolton off the bottom of the standings and up to 18th, a point adrift of safety, while Everton remain 11th.

With talks ongoing over his proposed move to Chelsea, it had been a matter of interest as to whether or not Cahill would play, and in the end, manager Owen Coyle's decision to hand him the skipper's armband paid off handsomely.

Jussi Jaaskelainen was unable to keep his place due to injury and was replaced in goal by Bogdan, while Chris Eagles came in for Ivan Klasnic.

For Everton, Landon Donovan, eligible to play for the Toffees for the first time since rejoining them on another two-month loan deal, came straight into the attack along with Denis Stracqualursi, who making his first league start.

Donovan's first contribution was to win a free-kick in the opening minute which was curled into the danger zone by Leighton Baines but bounced harmlessly off Stracqualursi and behind.

At the other end, Gretar Steinsson flashed a cross-shot across the face of goal, but it was the hosts who were looking more threatening in the blustery conditions as Donovan looped a header into Bogdan's arms and then cut the ball back for Stracqualursi, who fired wide.

Toffees striker Louis Saha was presented with an opportunity on the quarter-hour mark when Bolton centre-back Zat Knight inadvertently teed him up with a header from Baines' cross, but the Frenchman skewed his effort off target.

Steinsson tried his luck again only to find the side-netting and an Eagles cross caused problems in the Everton area, Howard eventually tipping the ball over the bar.

The lively Donovan laid the ball to Leon Osman, whose shot from outside the box was gathered by Bogdan, and Knight slid in to beat Stracqualursi at the near post to Baines' centre.

Everton looked to have the momentum again, with Osman driving an attempt just wide, but it took a block from Phil Jagielka to deny Ngog.

Jagielka sustained an injury in the incident which led to him being substituted soon after, Rodwell the man to take his place.

The Toffees were then left fuming in the 44th minute when Donovan went down in the box under the attentions of Sam Ricketts and referee Phil Dowd waved away their appeals for a penalty.

Moments later, though, they were indebted to Howard for keeping things level as he pushed Ngog's strike over the bar.

Three minutes after the restart Baines' corner came off Bogdan to Rodwell, who was unable to poke the ball in and like Osman, soon had to come off.

Howard then produced two good saves, tipping away efforts from Mark Davies and Ngog, before pulling off something even more spectacular.

The American lofted a huge kick down field which - assisted by the wind - travelled towards the Bolton box and bounced over the stranded Bogdan into the net.

It was another error of judgement on the part of Bogdan - who had made a couple of costly mistakes in his previous league appearance, the 5-1 defeat to Chelsea - and a shock blow for the visitors, but they responded well to equalise within four minutes, Ngog turning and slotting the ball into the corner.

Cahill then vindicated Coyle's decision to play him by snatching what proved to be the decisive goal.

Everton failed to clear a set-piece properly and Eagles laid the ball off to the England international, who fired past Howard.

Wanderers survived a scare at the death when Baines rattled the crossbar with a free-kick, the ball eventually scrambled away as three precious points were secured.

Coyle welcomes back defensive trio.

Bolton boss Owen Coyle has three defenders back in contention for the Barclays Premier League clash with Wolves at the Reebok Stadium. Coyle indicated after the 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle on Boxing Day that he would make some changes to his struggling side and the Scot will be able to call on Sam Ricketts - who returned to the squad in that game as an unused substitute after a lengthy spell out with an Achilles injury - as well as Gretar Steinsson and Joe Riley, recently sidelined by illness and a hamstring problem respectively.

Midfielder Darren Pratley is a doubt for the crunch New Year's Eve encounter having picked up a virus, while it remains to be seen whether or not Gary Cahill will play after Coyle confirmed a fee for the centre-back had been agreed with Chelsea.

"It is hypothetical, but if it was (his last game for Bolton), I think Gary would like to go out on a high," Coyle said.

"The bottom line is Gary has to be ready to give as big a performance as he always does for his team-mates, for the football club and for the supporters who have been magnificent for him - and that has got to be the focus for everyone."

Wolves midfielder Nenad Milijas will start a three-match ban for his sending-off against Arsenal. Milijas, whose appeal against the red card was rejected by the Football Association, could be replaced by Dave Edwards if he has shaken off the illness which ruled him out of the 1-1 draw with the Gunners. Full-back Ronald Zubar is a major doubt with the knee injury suffered against at the Emirates Stadium and likely to be replaced by Richard Stearman.

Skipper Roger Johnson has admitted being axed from the side earlier this month was the worst moment of his career. Central defender Johnson made the £5million move from Birmingham to Molineux during the summer and was instantly made captain by manager Mick McCarthy in place of Karl Henry. But he struggled to reproduce the form shown with Blues and was dropped for the 2-1 home win over Sunderland at the beginning of December and replaced by veteran Jody Craddock.

Johnson said: "Being left out of the team was the worst moment of my career to date. "Being left out through not playing well enough had never happened to me before. "It hit home big time. I certainly don't want that feeling again. I'll be doing whatever it takes to make sure it doesn't happen again."
