Wolverhampton V Norwich at Molineux Stadium : Match Preview

Wolverhampton V Norwich at Molineux Stadium : Match Preview

McCarthy: Jarvis back on songMick McCarthy believes Wolves winger Matt Jarvis has regained the form which won him an England cap ahead of their home Barclays Premier League clash with Norwich.Jarvis made his international debut last season against Ghana at Wembley after a string of fine performances, only for his standard of play to dip during the early part of the current campaign. But he impressed McCarthy during the defeats against Manchester United at Old Trafford and then Stoke at Molineux on Saturday.Potters manager Tony Pulis replaced makeshift right-back Jonathan Woodgate after only 20 minutes at the weekend after he had been given a roasting by Jarvis.McCarthy said: "I think Jarvo has been excellent, certainly in the last two games."Against Manchester United, he was terrific and the reality is he caused havoc for 20 minutes against Stoke."He got 'assaulted' on one occasion and then got tripped for the penalty. Tony (Pulis) had to take Woodgate off."Jarvo was excellent and it is great to see him back at his best."It means he must be back to the form which earned him an England call because he is back to his best - and his best was when England were wanting to give him a cap."We've had performances like that from different players. We could do with them all at their best tomorrow night against Norwich."McCarthy is hoping his side`s luck will change after what he considers to be a string of contentious refereeing decisions against them in recent weeks.Against Stoke, Woodgate was fortunate to escape a second yellow card for giving away a penalty before being substituted. Then replays suggested Wolves skipper Roger Johnson won the ball when conceding a free-kick which led to Stoke's equaliser. He said: "We might feel hard done by although we've undone ourselves a bit with the second goal. But we did play well and when Lady Luck is not with you, how do you change it around?"Maybe Saturday might be as low as it gets. It is all going to turn around after Christmas and we are going to be in the top six by March when all the things go in our favour!"Wolves will be without Jamie O'Hara (calf) and Dave Edwards (groin) who have failed to recover from the setbacks which ruled them out of Saturday's 2-1 home reversal to Stoke.Midfielder Kevin Foley (ankle) and defender Jody Craddock (hamstring) will attempt to gain fitness is a behind closed doors practice match later this week. The Canaries are seven points clear of the bottom three but manager Paul Lambert knows a series of poor results over a busy festive period can bring a sudden halt to the upbeat mood around the club."This is an important period for us. We have Wolves, then Tottenham, QPR and Fulham in a short space of time so it will be really hard to juggle but we have earned the right to be here," the Scot said.Expectations are rising among the Carrow Road faithful. The Canaries' home record has been the foundation around which they have built their season so far, but they have only scored nine times and won once on their travels.Lambert is hoping his team can grab all three points, but is predicting a hard test for his men."It will be an extremely tough match," Lambert added."The crowd will be really vibrant up there."It's hard with Steven Fletcher and Kevin Doyle up front. They are a really good side and they shouldn't be looked at in any other way."It will be hard for us but we have to go there with the confidence that we can win the game."On-loan Manchester United defender Ritchie de Laet (back) is expected to return to training this week but is unlikely to feature on Tuesday.Former Everton striker James Vaughan is on course for a return in the new year from his knee problem, along with centre-back Elliott Ward (knee).

Wolverhampton 1-2 Stoke: Match Report

Wolverhampton 1-2 Stoke: Match Report

Crouch gives Potters the points

Peter Crouch earned Stoke a fourth successive win in the Barclays Premier League as they came from behind to triumph 2-1 against Wolves.

The England striker netted the 99th league goal of his career as Stoke achieved their first top-flight win at Molineux for 44 years at the 15th attempt.

Wolves went ahead through Stephen Hunt's penalty but an own goal from Kevin Doyle brought the Potters level after the break before Crouch decided the outcome.

The home side had been the better side in the opening 45 minutes, with winger Matt Jarvis causing plenty of problems and Karl Henry making his presence felt in midfield.

But they failed to capitalise on Hunt's spot-kick and Stoke were a transformed side in the second half, with winger Matthew Etherington and substitute Jermaine Pennant posing a threat.

Wolves made a promising start and the first effort at goal came from full-back Ronald Zubar following a Jarvis centre, but his shot curled just past the post.

Stoke defender Jonathan Woodgate became the first player to be yellow-carded for bringing down Jarvis in full flight, and was again to blame after 16 minutes when the recalled Hunt put Wolves ahead from the penalty spot.

Woodgate could have few complaints after chopping down dangerman Jarvis inside the box, although he escaped a second yellow card.

Up stepped Hunt to drill the spot-kick past Thomas Sorensen even though the keeper dived the right way.

Pulis decided a tactical change was needed and after 19 minutes replaced Woodgate with Pennant, allowing Ryan Shotton to drop back to right-back.

Hunt should have done better for Wolves when he headed too fiercely back across goal from a Jarvis cross with two players unmarked in the centre.

The Republic of Ireland international forced Sorensen to block his low drive from a narrow angle with his feet.

Jarvis switched to the right flank in place of Hunt but continued to cause problems.

Stoke's best chance of the first half fell to Etherington after Crouch dummied a centre from Shotton but he failed to make a full contact on his shot, which Hennessey collected.

Jonathan Walters had a good chance to level after 51 minutes when he found himself unmarked at the far post but Etherington's centre seemed to take him by surprise and he poked his effort wide.

Hunt was becoming more involved and forced Sorensen to save low to his left after being teed up on the edge of the box by Steven Fletcher.

But after 58 minutes an own goal from Doyle put Stoke level in fortuitous manner. Wolves skipper Roger Johnson was adjudged to have fouled Walters 30 yard out and Glenn Whelan rolled the free-kick into the path of Huth.

His free-kick took a major deflection off Doyle in the defensive wall and wrong-footed Hennessey, who got a hand to the ball but could not preventing it entering the net.

Dean Whitehead was booked for a challenge on Christophe Berra, who soon took retribution on the Stoke midfielder with a late tackle and was also yellow-carded.

Hennessey made a fine save to turn over a powerful 25-yard drive from Etherington but after 70 minutes, Crouch put Stoke in front.

Pennant turned the ball back into the path of Etherington whose deep cross was converted by Crouch, who got in front of left-back Stephen Ward on the far post.

Wolves substitute Sylvan Ebanks-Blake headed wide from a corner by Hunt but Stoke faced few alarms in the final stages before securing victory.

Andy Carroll May Be Transferred In January

Andy Carroll, Liverpool FC

Andy Carroll may be a transfer target in January since he has yet to make his mark for Liverpool FC.

Liverpool is in 6th in the Premiership going into the January transfer window. Reportedly, Liverpool boss, Kenny Dalglish has £40 on hand in his transfer budget.

This time last season Liverpool were stuck in the bottom half of the table.

Liverpool were not playing at their best under then manager Roy Hodgson, and new Reds owners Fenway Sports Group wanted a change.

In January, Hodgson was fired and Kenny Dalglish was brought in to save The Reds.

Dalglish has brought new energy to Liverpool as he works to re-establish the Reds as a domestic powerhouse.

Liverpool spent around £50 million last summer bringing in new talent.

The Reds currently need a striker capable of finishing Luis Suarez brilliant work.

Dalglish may seek to sign Valencia’s Roberto Soldado. Soldado finished third in La Liga’s Golden Boot rankings last season, and is in fine form again this season.

Dalglish may also move to sign Gaston Ramirez from Bolognaas he attempts to add a creative balance to his side. Another target may be FC Basel’s Xherdan Shaqiri. Both wingers will likely cost in the region of £10-£15 million.

Manchester United are the current Community Shield title holders.

In last season's clash, Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko gave Manchester City a half-time lead but goals by Chris Smalling and a Nani double in the second period gave Manchester United a thrilling, last-minute victory.

Mid season, Man City is on top of the Premier League with Man Utd in second.

After the 2011 Community Shield clash a pleased Fergie reflected upon United’s 3-2 victory v Manchester City.

Sir Alex Ferguson paid tribute to his players after Manchester United came from two goals down to win an exciting FA Community Shield clash with Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

“We hope it bodes well for the season,” he said. “I thought our performance throughout the game was very good in terms of the football we played.

“I couldn’t believe we were two goals down at half-time. To me we had controlled the game.

“But goals change games and their second on half-time was a killer blow for us.

“Credit to the players, they kept their heads. We had 13 players under 23 out there, and then you have the likes of Chicharito (Javier Hernandez), (Antonio) Valencia, those sorts of young players. It’s great for our squad.”

Arsenal Transfer Update

Robin Van Persie, Arsenal

Arsenal Transfer Update

Arsene Wenger currently has £30 million in the bank for January transfers.

Robin Van Persie is the top goal scorer in the Premier League. Arsenal’s heavy reliance on star man and captain Van Persie would lead one to think Wenger may try to get another superstar to bring Arsenal up to the top four.

Koln’s German forward Lukas Podolski reportedly is high on the list and Lille striker Moussa Sow and Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou remain targets.

The Gunners have returned to top form, and with a few changes could again become a top four side.

Wenger rarely changes his squad in January.

Arsenal is currently sitting in sixth in the Premier League.
