Euro 2012: Wales 0-2 England - Rooney Banned From Switzerland Tie

England Manager Fabio Capello, Striker Wayne Rooney

Wales 0-2 England

England are back to the top of their Euro 2012 qualifying Group G, ahead of Montenegro on goal difference.

Although delighted with their victory, Wayne Rooney and England boss Fabio Capello are reportedly frustrated by a ban placed on Roons that suspends him for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland for being given a yellow card.

Rooney will miss the June 4th match against Switzerland.

“He was surprised,” said Capello, after telling Rooney about the ban at half-time. “I told him he would be suspended and he asked me 'why?’ He did not know.”

Capello was disappointed by the suspension of Rooney - who reacted angrily when not awarded a free-kick after being fouled by Andy Crofts. He remonstrated with the referee before throwing himself into a reckless challenge on Joe Ledley - and the referee booked him.

Rooney had also collected a yellow card against Montenegro in October - adding up to today's ban.

"He didn't remember that he got booked."

Rooney came off with 20 minutes to go. The England team doctor said there was no problem once he had examined Rooney after the game.

Otherwise, Capello was pleased with his squad's teamwork.

“Each player helped the other one,” he said. “The spirit was really good. I studied Wales and I decided we would change our style. I asked Scott to help Wilshere and Lampard in midfield and we played on the counter-attack.”

Early goals from Frank Lampard and Darren Bent put Fabio Capello’s men at the top of Euro 2012 qualifying Group G as they easily cruised to victory today.

England’s Frank Lampard scored the opening goal of the match at 7 minutes from the penalty spot. Shortly after, Darren Bent scored a lovely shot at 15 minutes. Jack Wilshere, Scott Parker and Ashley Young, who created both goals.

In a post-game interview, Capello said he wants to meet with Rio Ferdinand to explain why he gave the armband to John Terry.

“I hope I will meet with him,” he said. “I want to speak with him and tell him what really happened.”

England Captain, John Terry, said the Wales supporters made England fight harder when they booed England’s national anthem.

“When you hear that, you are pumped up even more,” said Terry. “It certainly makes you pump your chest out.”

Wales v England Update: Gareth Bale Out - Aaron Ramsay Team Captain

Gareth Bale

Saturday's upcoming match between Wales and England will be like a derby. With all the pre-match fanfare and hype - players, coaches and fans are eagerly anticipating the most exciting International game on the agenda this weekend. The teams are ready to scrap - and due to the unpredictable nature and passion of the fixture either Wales or England could emerge victorious.

There are some changes that have been announced this morning.

Gareth Bale will not be playing and Aaron Ramsay has been named Wales captain by manager Gary Speed.

Gareth Bale has been determined not fit enough to play in Wales' Euro 2012 qualifier against England on Saturday. Bale has been unable to train in Cardiff. Scans last night confirmed he had suffered a hamstring injury before reporting for duty.

Wales reportedly accused Spurs of being "incompetent amateurs" after Bale was forced to pull out.

Other reports suggested Bale was injured during training yesterday and Raymond Verheijen, Wales' assistant manager, was furious, responding with a "incompetent amateurs" rant on his Twitter page.

“Just spoken with the people at Spurs as they thought ‘incompetent amateurs’ had something to do with them. ‘Incompetent amateurs’ are the people who put in the news that Gareth Bale got injured in training with Wales while he did not train at all", said Verheijen to bring clarity to the situation.

“The ‘breaking news’ this morning about Gareth’s hamstring injury made us look like a bunch of amateurs. We had to protect ourselves.”

Aaron Ramsey has been named long-term captain of the Wales squad by manager, Gary Speed.

Former Wales captain, Craig Bellamy, is out due to injury.

Speed said: "Aaron Ramsey will be captain. "I thought about it a lot.

"As I have mentioned before, it is about the future and planning ahead.

"There were two or three candidates. I thought about what is best for the team going forward.

"I spoke to Aaron before making the decision and told him there were certain responsibilities and duties that would go with it, and to see if he was happy with it.

"I'm delighted and he was really happy. I made the decision because I thought it was best for the team and the future of the team."

Euro 2012: Wales v England - Gareth Bale Major Threat to Three Lions

Wales National Team - Bring Them On

Wales v England

"Gaz" - Gareth Bale says England are in for a tough time in Cardiff on Saturday in their Euro 2012 qualifying match against Wales.

“We’re quietly confident in the camp that we’ve got enough to pull off an upset,” said Bale.

“People might laugh at us but we fully believe that we’ve got some good players here and we’ll be fully prepared and ready to take it to England.

Wales’s chances of doing so are definitely helped by Bale’s return from an injury that curtailed an incredible campaign for the 21-year-old with the Spurs and England.

Hotspur's Gareth Bale was out with an injury against Ireland in England's Nations Cup loss in February but is now fully recovered. Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey is also set to return to England for the first time more than a year due to injury.

“I’ve had a bit of banter with Defoe and Dawson back at the club and it will be a great game on Saturday and I’m hoping Wales will come out on top.

“Now is the time we need to start delivering and there’s no better game than to beat England.”

“We’re still young, we’re still learning and we’re both improving at our clubs and we want to keep doing that,” Bale told the BBC.

“With a full crowd there on the weekend it will give us that extra bit of confidence and belief.

“If we do then it will be good for the Welsh team.”

“I don’t think any player can carry the whole team and it’s about the team playing well together and not individuals,” said Bale.

“As long as we work as a team then I think we can go a long way.”

The Millennium Stadium will be sold out  for the exciting match.

“With a full crowd there on the weekend it will give us that extra bit of confidence and belief.

“You’ve seen what it used to be like five or six years ago with all the fans there.

“I was one of them fans at the time and it was an electric atmosphere. All the fans were with the team.

“We want to be going out to that and feeling comfortable with everybody on our side.”
