Both Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson Suffered Harsh Bans by the FA Last Season

Wayne Rooney was banned for two games for his rant into a TV camera while celebrating Man Utd’s victory at West Ham.

Sir Alex Ferguson was banned for five matches and fined £30,000 last season for criticising referee Martin Atkinson after United’s defeat at Chelsea, the latest in a long list of battles he has had with the FA through the years.

Sir Alex Ferguson has now turned the spotlight onto the FA, claiming there was an “unfair focus” on Manchester United.

The Man United boss cited ‘possible resentment about the club because of our success since the Premier League began’.

‘I think that has something to do with it really,’ said Ferguson.

‘It will always be there and I think we know that. I don’t really know whether it’s about me or the club. That’s a difficult one. They have certainly always found a way to treat us differently.

‘It has been happening for a while now and they always seem to find a way to do us when, with others, it’s seemingly forgotten.’

‘Personally, I felt hard-done-by last season but it’s always difficult and I’m not wanting to get involved with it, to be honest,’ said Ferguson.

‘It doesn’t bother me one bit. I defend my club and that’s my job. Part of the problem is that when I make comments, the media are on to the FA right away.

‘Then they feel forced to do something and they are afraid of what might happen if they don’t. There is no consistency in the disciplinary situation. We all know that.’

Wayne Rooney Reflects on Champions League Final Loss to Barcelona

Man Utd superstar striker, Wayne Rooney reflected on his side's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Barcelona. Manchester United was defeated in the UEFA Champions League final between FC Barcelona and Manchester United FC at Wembley Stadium on May 28, 2011 in London, England.

"It hurt," he said. "I watched the game again because you can always learn by watching football.

"It was very disappointing but you have to put your hands up and say they were the better team.

"They are the best team I’ve seen and Lionel Messi the best player.

"I think he got three nutmegs in the first-half. On my Playstation I can make him do what I want but he’s even better in real life.

"The speed he moves his legs, in fact his whole body, is amazing. Messi wins them games but Xavi and Andres Iniesta destroy you."

The United man also conceded that Barcelona are the team to catch, adding: "They are simply a fantastic team, a very special side.

"That’s the level we want to be at and we have to up our game to achieve this. The manager will be doing what he can to see we do this."

Despite praising Messi, Rooney believes the Argentine might struggle in the Premier League.

"If you bring Xavi and Iniesta with him, yes [he could be a success]. But it would be difficult, almost impossible for him to play as he does in Spain,” he said.

"The game is more physical here, going to the likes of Birmingham and Stoke away is very demanding.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is more suited to the English game than Messi. Cristiano is taller and good in the air."

At this stage of the season, it is all about staying focused on the next game and not looking too far ahead. We've got good experience in the squad and we're in a great position, but I don't like to say too much about what we could achieve because it hasn't happened yet. It's an exciting time, but you can't take anything for granted,” remarked Man Utd goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar about Man United’s upcoming final clashes.

You never stop learning in life and it's the same in football. It's not just during the games - even in training, you're always learning. That's very important because every time you step out onto the pitch, you have to be on your toes and be ready for all the things that can happen,” Van der Sar continued.

There's a good mix of youth and experience in our squad. On one hand, you have a young player who brings maybe enthusiasm and fresh legs and, on the other, you have the experienced guys who have the knowledge of the game and the composure in important situations.”

It's important to stay focused on ourselves but you always keep an eye on your rivals as well. I think it's important to know what other teams are doing and to see how they play when they're in winning and losing positions.”

Everyone in the squad feels good and is ready for the challenges ahead. At this stage of the season, you've just got to take it game by game and week by week.”

Ban Aganist Wayne Rooney Upheld

Wayne Rooney Banned For Two Games

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United star striker, lost his appeal against a two-match ban handed down by the Football Association.

He will not play against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final next weekend at Wembley as a result. Roons will miss Saturday's Premier League game against Fulham as well.

Rooney was handed the suspension by the FA after swearing into a television camera following the penalty kick that completed his hat-trick against West Ham.

Rooney said through his spokesman, Ian Monk: "I am gutted to miss two matches, one of which is an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. I am not the first player to have sworn on TV and I won't be the last.

"Unlike others who have been caught swearing on camera, I apologised immediately. And yet I am the only person banned for swearing. That doesn't seem right."

Rooney publicly apologised for his offensive language.

A statement issued by the FA read: "A Regulatory Commission has suspended Manchester United's Wayne Rooney for two matches. Rooney had admitted a charge for the use of offensive, insulting and - or abusive language, but claimed that the automatic penalty of two games was clearly excessive. "The Commission did not accept the claim and Rooney will begin the standard two match suspension with immediate effect. The charge relates to an incident during his side's fixture with West Ham United at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday 2 April 2011."

United responded on their official website, "Manchester United is clearly very disappointed with the Regulatory Commission's decision. The club put forward a very strong case to have the punishment reduced, which was unsuccessful.

"Wayne Rooney apologised immediately after the match and the club now wishes to move to on to what hopefully will be a very exciting conclusion to the season."

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini said that he was disappointed Rooney would not take part in the FA Cup semi-final.

"I am disappointed because when we play a game like this it is important all the best players play," he said. "Should the FA punish players in this way? I do not know. I think the managers and players here have a lot of respect for the referee and the FA."
